Antique Katana sword in Ornate Mounting
Late Edo Era (1864)
NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon certificated (Extremely Well Preserved certificate)
Swordsmith: YOSHIYUKI
A quality Katana sword from SAMURAI STORE Tokyo.
This distinguished katana sword, masterfully crafted by YOSHIYUKI in Hohki province in February 1864, stands as a testament to Japanese craftsmanship. As the celebrated official smith at Matsue Castle in the Izumo Domain, YOSHIYUKI imbued this piece with prestige—his signature on the blade tang marking it as a rare and prized collector’s treasure.
Inscriptions of Smith’s name, location, and completion year and month are on the blade tang.
The blade features a striking gunome (irregular zigzag) temper line with deep, luminous nioi (white mist) areas and intricate notches—exquisite details certain to captivate and entice discerning collectors.
Experience the unmatched elegance of a complete set of ornate antique mountings from the Late Edo period. This set includes the hilt (tsuka), handguard (tsuba), and all decorative fittings. The Fuchi and Kashira pommels are crafted from Shakudo copper, featuring intricate designs inspired by a samurai kabuto helmet and elegant Ume plum trees.
The antique appearance of the braid lacing on the Tsuka handle conveys an authentic historical connection, most likely wrapped in the 1800s. This exceptional detail not only enhances the sword's timeless character but also provides unmatched appeal for lovers of genuine antique artistry. Due to its antique condition, the Tsukamaki wrapping is likely to be removed for preservation, presenting a rare opportunity to acquire a truly authentic collectible. Today, it is tough to find a Tsuka handle with antique wrapping.
This blade proudly holds the prestigious TOKUBETSU Hozon paper "Extremely Well-Preserved Sword" certification by NBTHK (Japan Sword Preservation Society). This top-tier recognition elevates its value far beyond the standard certification.
The blade comes with a Certificate of NBTHK Japan Sword Preservation Society - Tokubetsu Hozon Paper (Extremely Well-preserved sword)
