Former Kyoto Ii museum collection:
Antique suit of armor from the mid-Edo period with/ Koshu Tokubetsu-Kicho Paper (2nd highest ranking) Certificate

A quality antique samurai armor from Kyoto Ii museum acquisition. Made in the Edo period (1600-1800s). Cuirass consists of 2 divided iron plates finished with very detailed Honkozane hand-spliced small iron pieces and hair-spread purple silk braid lacings. Kabuto helmet is composed of 62 separate iron plates, each with its own specific proportions. When joined, they result in the perfectly formed kabuto seen here. The cuirass is well finished, with gold rims. Chest armor features a Japanese crest, Mitsu-Kashiwa, which many warlord families have used in Japan. A great certificate comes with this item: Koshu-Tokubetsu Kicho paper, the 2nd-highest ranking among five certificates granted by The Association for the Research and Preservation of Japanese Helmets and Armor. (The top-ranked certificate is just for a museum-class heritage item.)
