Antique suit of armor Edo period w/ Tokubetsu-Kicho Certificate
Throughout the course of Japanese history, red hued Yoroi have come to represent the noble attributes of “honor” and “valor.” One can find numerous tales and accounts of red-clad warriors, staking their honor and their lives in single combat, leading pivotal attacks, and making valiant last stands. Those that don the red armor become part of a greater tradition, one shared with famous warlord clans such as Takeda, Ii, Sanada and Maeda. This is a quality antique armor just finished in vermilion-red from mid Edo period (1700's). Cuirass consists of Nimaido, 2 divided body gurads constructed with the Iyozane iron plates. The Akoda style helmet is comprised of 12 separate iron plates, each with its own specific proportions. When joined, they result in the perfectly formed kabuto seen here. The helmet features metal moon headerboard. Registered as Tokubetsu Kicho paper "Important historical armor" by The Association for the Research and Preservation of Japanese Helmets and Armor. The original storage box, display stand, and all pieces shown in the catalogue come with.
